“I love the story of the little boy who was so afraid of the dark that he would never go out there unless someone was with him.

One night his mother asked him to go out on the back porch and get the broom for her, and the little boy clutched up on the inside and said, ‘But Mama, I can’t do that. It’s already dark outside.’ And she said, “Oh honey, don’t worry about that. You’ll be okay. And besides, Jesus is out there, and he’ll protect you.” And the little boy looked at his mother with the biggest eyes. “Jesus is out there?” he said questioningly. And his mother said again, “Yes, honey, Jesus is out there, and he’ll take care of you.”

So the little boy started for the door, but then he stopped and turned back. “Are you sure, Mama? Are you positive he’s there?” His mother said, “Yes, son, I’m positive. Now hurry up and get the broom for me.” And so the little boy opened up the door ever so cautiously. And then he took hold of the screen door and pushed it open ever so slightly. Then he poked his head through and looked outside into the dark and said, “Jesus, if you’re out there…would you please hand me the broom?”

Well as cute as that little story is, it also contains a powerful truth that you and I need to learn this morning. It’s the truth of the Resurrection…the truth of Easter Sunday…the one truth upon which the whole Church has been built across these 2,000 years. And do you know what that truth is?

It’s the simple fact that Jesus Christ is just as alive and present today as he ever was 2,000 years ago! He is right here, and he’s inside of you and inside of me. Through us, He can do unbelievable things that neither you nor I could ever do on our own!

A Happy Easter to us all!”
