Musically Speaking -March 2018
March has arrived, and what a month it will be at Main Street! Lenten music will be presented at the morning worship services by The Charles Wesley Choir, The Sarah Allen Handbell Choir, Soloists, and The Junior Handbell Choir.
Main Street’s Annual Passion Festival will be held in the Sanctuary at 7:00 p.m. on Palm Sunday, March 25. Following the service, a reception will be held in Asbury Hall.
The service will begin with a prelude by The Sarah Allen Handbell Choir featuring Lloyd Larson’s arrangements of “Were You There?” and “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross”.
The title of the Passion Festival is When I Survey the Wondrous Cross. It features eight anthems with readings in between that depict the following events in Christ’s life: The Triumphal Entry into Jerusalem, the Upper Room Meal, the Garden of Gethsemane, the Trial, the Crucifixion, and the anticipation of Easter and the Resurrection.
Anthems include: “God’s Holy Lamb” by Mark Hayes; “In Remembrance” by Lloyd Larson; “Come to the Garden” by Ruth Elaine Schram; “Not A Word” by Douglas E. Wagner; “Were You There?” by Raymond H. Haan; “Man of Sorrows” by Heather Sorenson; “When I Survey the Wondrous Cross” by Gilbert M. Martin; and the “Hallelujah Chorus” from the MESSIAH by George Frideric Handel.
The Charles Wesley Choir and guest singers will be accompanied by organ, piano, flute, oboe, cello, and trumpet. Gerald Berry will serve as the narrator. Please come and begin your observance of Holy Week at this time-honored service here at Main Street.
Godspeed,
Robin
