Musical Notes – November 2017

Music Notes from Robin:

The month of November is going to be a musical month at Main Street.

The Sarah Allen Handbell Choir is preparing a new arrangement of “Give Thanks” by Peggy Bettcher, and the Junior Handbell Choir is preparing an arrangement of the hymn “All Glory, Laud, and Honor” by Janet Valey and Susan Berry.

Our annual All Saints’ Day Service will be held at Main Street on Sunday, November 5. Musical selections include Craig Courtney’s “Let Me Hide Myself in Thee”, Dick Bolks’ concert setting of “When The Roll Is Called Up Yonder”, and Dan and Heidi Goeller’s anthem “I Have Overcome The World”.

Z. Randall Stroope’s anthem “Inscription of Hope” will precede “I Have Overcome The World”. “Inscription of Hope” is a beautiful anthem with a text from an inscription on cellar walls in Cologne, Germany; the music quotes a Russian Folk Tune. The composer has asked that this quote be read before the anthem is sung…

“The Holocaust is a stunning reminder of the tragic results of prejudice and hate toward other people. But it is also a reminder that hope held firm will eventually reign victorious over the greatest of odds. The following words were inscribed on the walls of a cellar in Cologne, Germany, where Jews were hiding from the Nazis during World War II. Hope was all they had to hold on to; hope was their only bridge to a brighter tomorrow.” Please make plans to attend this very special service.

We also invite you to attend our annual Service of Lessons and Carols on Sunday, December 17, at 7:00 p.m.

As always, thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving our church.

Godspeed,
Robin
