Musical Notes – June 2016
Can you believe that June is arriving and summer vacation is about to begin? I would like to express my deepest appreciation to The Charles Wesley Choir, The Sarah Allen Handbell Choir, and the guest musicians for the beautiful music at the Centennial Celebration. I could not have been more pleased. Thank you for a job well done! I also want to thank The Junior Handbell Choir for playing so well on Graduate Sunday; I am proud of each of these young musicians.
The Charles Wesley Choir, The Sarah Allen Handbell Choir, and The Junior Handbell Choir are taking a well-deserved break from Wednesday rehearsals until September. Watch your newsletters and bulletins for details about when these rehearsals will resume.
I also want to thank the families who provided the pictures; our Office Administrator Anna Alford for copying, editing, and formatting the pictures; our Minister The Reverend Bruce Sayre for finding frames; and Dean Shuttleworth for hanging the pictures that are displayed on the wall beside the choir room entrance in honor and memory of Main Street Musicians. If you have not had an opportunity to view this display, I encourage you to do so.
June is going to be an eventful month as well. I will be representing Main Street as a lay delegate at the South Carolina Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church June 5-8. Please keep the conference in your prayers, as the Clergy and Laity meet to handle the business of the church.
I will be away from June 17 to June 26, since I am going with The Masterworks Choir on a concert tour to Italy. There are about 60 in the group from the choir and their guests with 40 singers. The choir will be giving concerts in Venice, Florence, and at St. Peter’s Basilica at the Vatican in Rome. I am thrilled to be able to take part in this trip and tour, since it will be my first trip to Italy. Please keep me and my fellow travelers in your prayers. I will leave the music for those two Sundays in capable hands, but I will miss not being here with you. Take care.
I would be remiss in not expressing to all of you my sincere gratitude for the privilege of serving as Organist and Director of Music at Main Street for the past 25 years. I came to Main Street on Father’s Day in 1991 and have enjoyed each Sunday, month and year. I love this beautiful church and its members. Thank you for all your support and for giving me a second home. I look forward to many more years together. I cannot believe that a quarter of a century has come and gone, but it has been my pleasure to share these years with you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
In grateful appreciation,
Robin
