Musical Notes from Robin – November 2018

Music Notes from Robin:

The month of November will be a busy musical month at Main Street with The Sarah Allen Handbell Choir, The Junior Handbell Choir, and The Youth Praise Group sharing their talents in the worship services… as well as The Charles Wesley Choir. The Thanksgiving Season will be celebrated, and we will recognize Veteran’s Day.

The first Sunday in November—the 4th—Main Street will have its Annual All Saints Service. The Charles Wesley Choir and guest singers will present some beautiful anthems including Lloyd Larson’s setting of Andre’ Crouch’s gospel song “Soon and Very Soon, We Are Going to See the King”, Molly Ijames’ setting of the hymn “Abide with Me”, and Mac Wilberg’s festal setting of “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling”. John Rutter’s arrangement of the hymn “Shall We Gather at the River” will be the final hymn. The All Saints Service is an uplifting remembrance of the lives of members of Main Street who have joined the heavenly host during the past year. The final words of “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling” are a powerful statement of the faith of Christians.

“Finish then thy new creation;
pure and spotless let us be.
Let us see thy great salvation
perfectly restored in Thee.
Changed from glory into glory,
till in heaven we take our place,
till we cast our crowns before Thee,
lost in wonder, love, and praise.”

Please make plans to be at this very special service. The musicians are already
preparing for the end of the year by learning musical selections for the Advent and Christmas seasons. As always, thank you for your support of the music ministry.

Happy Thanksgiving,
Robin
