Music Notes from Robin – June 2020

Music Notes from Robin

June, the sixth month of 2020, is here!  Can you believe that the world is entering the fourth month of dealing with COVID-19 issues?  The past nine weeks have been challenging and certainly not what anybody expected.  However, our Main Street members have, thankfully, made the best of a difficult time; and they have

continued to worship and function as a church.  I am so grateful for your support through calls, texts, cards, and finances.  God bless each and everyone of you.  I am looking forward to returning to the more familiar way of life, and I’m praying that June will be the month that sees that return.

I have so enjoyed watching the worship services and seeing the comments from each of you.  It has also been a blessing to see people experiencing our worship services from out of town and in their homes.  Expanding our congregation through technology is a true “fringe benefit” of adversity.

It is my prayer that we will all have a new sense of appreciation and dedication to Main Street…when we are able to reunite in our sanctuary to worship…and to continue sharing the services with people who cannot physically be present in the building.

There is a hymn on page 558 of The United Methodist Hymnal entitled “We Are The Church”I would like to share some of the text of this hymn with you.  The refrain is:

“I am the church!  You are the church!  We are the church together!

All who follow Jesus, all around the world!  Yes, we’re the church together!”

The verses state that :

“The church is not a building.  The church is not a steeple.

The church is not a resting place.  The church is a people.”

Sometimes the church is marching; sometimes it’s bravely burning;

sometimes it’s riding, sometimes hiding—always it’s learning.”

“And when the people gather, there’s singing and there’s praying.  There’s laughing, and there’s crying sometimes, all of it saying:

“I am the church!  You are the church!  We are the church together!

All who follow Jesus, all around the world!  Yes, we’re the church together!”

Thank the Lord for the church, for Main Street United Methodist Church, and for our church family.

In Christ’s love,

Robin
