Worshipfully Speaking – November 2015

NOVEMBER, SCRIPITURALLY SPEAKING

The autumn leaves are not the only ‘shift’ in the climate around the church. We will leave the sometimes combative Gospel of Mark as our lection-oriented preaching texts though, as you see below, we continue to offer the remaining Markan lections for personal reading and devotion until the last Sunday of the Christian Year, November 22. For November, our Sunday preaching texts have been chosen to speak in large part to our Stewardship emphasis for this year, “Let God Lead”. One of my favorite texts, from Matthew 10, will be our two-part ‘word’ for stewardship devotions and preparations. I think — I hope — you find each week’s free-chosen sermon texts far less harsh and vindictive than Mark’s lections seemed to be.

And even better good news is that the last Sunday of November—November 29—begins a whole new Christian Year, whose primary gospel lections will be drawn from the kinder, gentler Gospel of Luke—just in time for the upcoming Christmas Season around the corner!
